Unidentified gunmen have attacked the office of a Western aid agency in Pakistan, killing up to five people, the police said. The victims, including two women, were all Pakistanis, reports say. The attack took place on the office of the World Vision in Mansehra district, 65 km (40 miles), north of Islamabad, the police said. Islamic militants have attacked offices of foreign NGOs in the past in Pakistan, correspondents say. Ring may be giant ‘impact crater’

The 36-46km-wide feature, identified in DR Congo, may be one of the largest such structures discovered in the last decade. Italian researchers considered other origins for the ring, but say these are unlikely. They presented their findings at the recent Lunar and Planetary Science Conference in Texas, US. Man admits blackmailing Letterman

A US television producer has pleaded guilty to attempting to blackmail US chat show host David Letterman over his sexual affairs. Robert Halderman was charged after threatening to reveal all unless paid $2m (1.47m euros). The attempt sparked Mr Letterman to make an on-air confession about his affairs with production staff. Mr Halderman’s lawyers had initially claimed he was attempting to sell the comedian a thinly veiled screenplay. File-sharing sanctions ‘unfair’

Plans to suspend the internet accounts of people who download music illegally are unfair, according to the head of Britain’s biggest telecoms firm. British Telecom’s chief executive, Ian Livingston, says illegal file-sharers should be fined rather than have their internet accounts cut off. He and other industry figures have written to the Financial Times urging changes to the Digital Economy Bill. The bill is going through Parliament and was welcomed by the music industry.
